Silent Film Performance and Open Console Demonstration

June 2 @ 1:00pm - 3:00 pm

Admission to this event is free.

Internationally known theater and classical organist Mark Andersen is coming to Paramount Bristol on June 2 for a special “open console” event. You will have a chance to play the Paramount’s Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ followed by a screening of the Charlie Chase silent film “Mighty Like a Moose," accompanied by an original live score played by Mr. Andersen.

Directed by Leo McCarey and released in July 1926, “Mighty Like a Moose” is representative of Chase’s adroit blend of farce, surrealism, and sight gags. After a homely married couple separately undergo plastic surgery, they unwittingly flirt with each other. Scholars consider this two-reel short comedy to be Chase’s finest silent film. In 2007, “Mighty Like A Moose” was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, which recognizes American films deemed culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Mark Andersen’s music is well known throughout America and Europe. He served as organist to the Boston Symphony, and won the International Composer’s Competition in Amsterdam – twice. He has performed in prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. While living in New York City, Mark worked for NBC and produced Off-Broadway shows. For the past 10 years, he has served as Artist in Residence to Daniels Recital Hall in Seattle, playing one of the largest pipe organs in the state. As a composer, Mark is well known for his original scores for many silent movies.
